We are just over a week away from an election that has been like no other.  Unlike the races of decades ago, the choice is clearly defined.  We are faced with two diametrically opposed visions of America.  One is offering us a ‘brave new future,’ untethered to the American tradition.  Oh, in the presentation, in the campaign, it has been given a coat of paint and some stars and stripes to make it seem like what it isn’t.  It disguises moral uncertainty as inclusiveness and sacrifices cultural integrity in the name of a false sense of compassion.  It would sacrifice our traditions, our borders and our God-given rights all traded in for a Globalist vision that erodes the role of the nation state.  It is NOT America; not the one we find when we dust off the old history books and push past modernist revisionism.  The other vision we are offered is tied closely to that past.  Yes, it is boisterous and imperfect in both its understandings and its staging – but its roots push deep toward the ... “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:10-13)) (NLT) We are entering a time of darkness almost unparalleled in human history.  It perhaps is only rivaled by the heyday of Babylon, the time before the Flood, or when Ezekiel (chapter 8) was taken in the spirit to the inner sanctums of the priests where God showed him how they (the priests) were worshipping pagan gods, or the plot of the Pharisees against the Jesus.  This time of darkness we are witnessing is a preamble to the tribulation soon to come. We live in a day ... [More]

A few stories highlight the continuing tension between the US and Russia.  Moscow is continuing either its show of force – or – is actually preparing for conflict.  Perhaps it’s a little bit of both.  One news outlet reported: “Russia´s military conducted a series of intercontinental ballistic missile tests on Wednesday, the latest flexing of its muscles as tensions with the US spike over Syria.”  Two of the missiles were launched from submarines and one from the Russian mainland.[i] At the same time, the Kremlin is calling its citizens back home.  The UK’s Daily Mail reports: “Russia is ordering all of its officials to fly home any relatives living abroad amid heightened tensions over the prospect of global war….Politicians and high-ranking figures are said to have received a warning from president Vladimir Putin to bring their loved-ones home to the 'Motherland.'”[ii]  And besides the massive civil defense exercise involving 40 million people that ran last week, Moscow is now ... Yom Kippur: Grieved Israelis Gather to Pray for Syria on Jewish Day of Atonement – (Oct 12, 2016: The Times of Israel) Some 15,000 Israelis gathered in cities across the country on Monday to pray for the people of war-torn Syria, hours before the start of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.  “On the other side of the border, one of the greatest tragedies since World War II is happening.  More than 5000,000 people have been killed.  Children are abandoned and left as orphans among the ruins.  Millions of refugees have fled their homes.  The world says nothing.  The world is cynical.  We cannot remain silent.” –Eli Malka, Golan Regional Council.  Under the banner “The world is silent, we are not,” and with the involvement of rabbis and communal leaders, people gathered in Beersheba, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, the Golan Heights and other places in prayer, music and silent meditation. “When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.  But when the wicked are in power, they groan.” (Proverbs 29:2) (NLT) Alright, I watched the debate last Sunday night and it really drove home the point for me.  There is an underlying truth that should color every voter’s decision this election.   It’s all about the America we want to live in.  Donald Trump is often crude, bombastic and aggressive.    He also has a history of rising from the ashes of defeat (bankruptcy), using his own money to help troops get home, and valuing the America that once was.  Hillary Clinton has proven to be a serial liar.  She boasts Whitewater, Bimbo Eruption Squads, influence peddling, Clinton foundation shady-dealings, and thousands of scrubbed emails.  (But she did say she was sorry.  So what’s the problem?) Most importantly perhaps is the fact that the next president is very likely to appoint the judges to the Supreme Court that will define the character of this country ... [More]
