It is America’s time of choosing. It happens every four years, and in every election cycle we hear the adage: ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime.’ This time, I believe it is true.
As Psalm 33:12 tells us: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” America was dedicated to the Lord God and the Gospel at least three times during its’ founding. We were not a perfect nation. We bore our national sin of slavery. We failed in other ways. But our ethic was to acknowledge and seek the Lord. Though some of our Founding Fathers were deists, the documents they produced along with their Christian brethren were based on biblical principles and gave us a Judeo-Christian foundation. The God of Heaven’s Armies blessed this fledgling nation mightily. The Spirit that hovered over this land was the Holy Spirit. But now, another spirit has come. Over the last several decades we have, as a nation, abandoned God. The decision of this election lies between the Holy God of the Bible and the antichrist / anti-God forces that have massively deceived our culture.
Our culture has been wholly captured – and it happened when we ceased following God. In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus taught regarding the nature of demonic possession. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” In this case, this was a national deception. Don’t think it can’t happen on a national scale. It happened in NAZI Germany and the USSR.
That is the story of American culture today. We have driven out any remaining vestige of the Judeo-Christian foundation upon which we were built. And we are suffering the consequences. Professing to be wise we have become fools. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18) “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting.” (Rom 1:28) America….and the West, are in the process of returning to the state of the world at the beginning of the Pagan Era. We are returning to the Days of Noah and Lot. “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot.” (Luke 17:28) These were days of violence, unrepentant evil and rampant homosexuality. The ancient culture was demon possessed. Their religious worship was twisted. When we look at today’s culture, all across the globe, we find signs of that same demonic possession. What saved the ancient world, what brought them out of that darkness, was the preaching of the Gospel.
Jonathan Cahn describes what went on – and still goes on – as a “war of the gods.” It was the Gospel that “exorcised the world.” During the greatest persecution by Rome of the Christians, under the Emperor Diocletian, the Oracle at Delphi, a key pagan spokesman, declared that the Christian faith had interfered with the communication with the gods, meaning the demonic entities that posed in that role in the ubiquitous pagan system. Wherever the Christian faith prevailed, the spirits had been banished. Centuries later that was true of America. This country had been dedicated to the God of the Bible and the spread of the Gospel on numerous occasions. This was true at Jamestown in 1607, the Plymouth Colony in 1620 and at Washington’s first inaugural in New York City at what became Ground Zero. But since at least the1960s, we’ve been undergoing a process of abandoning God. We’ve tossed prayer out of school, embraced abortion and experienced – and continue to experience – a sexual revolution that grows ever more outlandish, perverse and absurd. So now, according to the principle we found in Matthew 12, the spirits, the ancient demonic gods, are in the process of repossessing America.
There is a dark spirit that is inhabiting America right now. It promotes unlimited abortion, the killing of babies in the womb, in the guise of “Women’s Health Care.” [If abortion is ‘Health Care,’ slavery is job creation!] This is a product of the antichrist spirit. It promotes the enthronement of the LGBTQ+ agenda. That agenda is clearly at odds with the precepts found in the Bible. We do not get to set aside God’s clear teachings on the basis of personal preference. As Christians, we are called on to choose the righteous. How do we determine what is right or wrong? We find it in the Scripture.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “If you love Me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) In John 14:21 Christ fleshes it out a little more. And it comes with a promise. “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” For those that reject God’s commandments the opposite is true. They will find neither God nor His blessings
Make no mistake: Both candidates are flawed individuals. But they stand for diametrically opposed world views. One has clearly staked out a position that promotes darkness and an anti-God philosophy. “Keep my commandments,” Jesus said. We don’t get to choose which ones. He is God….And we’re not. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” (Psalm 33:12)
I believe we are choosing the future destiny of America. It is that stark a choice. But we are being called to make the righteous choice. To uphold our own God-given rights, which were then later documented in our Bill of Rights. To preserve the integrity of our nation by restoring the integrity of our borders, and our voting system, and of the rights of parents to ‘parent’ their children free from state interference. And to not choose, is to choose to countenance the evil. Our call is simple. We MUST CHOOSE THE RIGHT! THE BIBLICAL! THE GODLY!
Joshua once addressed the Israelites about a choice they had to make, whether to follow God or their own preferences. “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:14-15)
