Western Europe has for the most part is in the process of progressive surrender to the invading Islamic hordes. Traditional European culture, based upon a Judeo-Christian foundation, has been abandoned, forgotten – or deemed not worthy of the fight it would take to maintain it. There is not much of a remnant there waiting in expectation for the return of Christ. In contrast, the forces of Islam itself are united by a religious vision that awaits the triumph of their faith in the political as well as religious spheres. And one more thing: They are waiting for the coming of the Mahdi, the Islamic Messiah. Strange thing is, when you look at what they say about him, he seems an awful lot like our Antichrist. Mmmmmm!
PART I – THE ANTICHRIST / MAHDI CONNECTION
“And he said, ‘Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.’” (Dan 12:9-10)
Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran had a clear prophetic vision. Ahmadinejad believed – and likely still does – that the Mahdi, the very Islamic Messiah, – will soon reveal himself to the world. He stated that he has been chosen by Allah to help bring that about. The Mahdi will unite the warring factions of Islam, (Shiite and Sunni), conquer Jerusalem and set up a global Islamic Empire. Everything that the Iranian President did while in office was influenced by that belief.[i] The President is a very, (and some would argue should be), committed guy. Amir Taheri, former editor of Iran’s largest daily newspaper, reports that just before making his announcement that Iran had joined the “nuclear club,” Ahmadinejad spent several hours ‘communing’ with Islam’s 12th Imam, the “last of the imams (teacher) of Shiism who went into ‘grand occultation’ in 941.” (In other words, he be talking with some dead guy….or actually demon.) That “12th Imam” is the one-day returning Islamic Messiah, the Mahdi, the “true Sovereign of the World.” Ahmadinejad is one of his chosen disciples. He knows so because of that incident in September 2005 when he addressed the UN General Assembly. On that occasion, he was bathed in a divine light, visible only to the Iranian President and other true followers of the Mahdi.[ii] Perhaps to those in the West all this is very strange, but awaiting the Mahdi is actually not so odd at all.
The fact is, President Ahmadinejad’s beliefs on the return of the Mahdi are quite mainstream within Islam. Judging by the fare presented on Iranian TV over the last several years, the former president was joined in his beliefs by the real rulers of Iran, the religious hierarchy dominated by the Ayatollah in Chief. They are based on writings taken from the Koran, the Hadith, (Islam’s second holiest book), as well as Islamic tradition. Shiites and Sunnis alike are anticipating his appearance. The Mahdi, or ‘Guided One’, is to appear suddenly during a great time of struggle between the forces of good and evil. At the end of history, he will lead the Islamic forces to victory over the unbelieving Christians and Jews. At that time, the whole world will become Muslim. During this Islamic revival, the ‘Prophet Jesus’ will come back to earth, and the two will proceed to Jerusalem, where Jesus will publicly deny that he is the Son of God. Then together they will forcibly destroy both Christians and Jews.[iii]
Of course the similarity between the Islamic Mahdi and the Christian Antichrist is remarkable, as is that between the Muslim’s ‘Prophet Jesus’ and the False Prophet of Revelation. Passages from the Islamic commentaries, the Hadith point to even more similarities between the two sets of prophecy. The Hadith says, “Imam Mahdi will…do battle with the forces of evil in one final apocalyptic battle….After the Imam Mahdi has reigned for several years, Jesus Christ will return.” In a companion passage we are told of the Mahdi: “He will rule for seven years.”[iv] This directly corresponds with the length of the reign of the Antichrist as prophesied in Daniel and Revelation.
Now this belief is influencing the actions of the most dynamic Islamic power and sponsor of terror in the world: Iran. The government in Tehran seems to be embarking on a course which may indeed result in an epic clash between Islam and the West, represented by the US and Israel. Iran seems bent on what they see as the divine task of provoking such a “clash of civilizations.”[v] Ideas beget actions beget consequences. The consequences of leading this terror-sponsoring, ambitious nation to arrange events to bring about the appearance of a Messianic figure, may just succeed in bringing that clash about. One of the signal events of the near-appearance of the Mahdi may be the bombing of the Golden Mosqe in Samarra, Iraq in 2006. Built in 944, that is where the 10th and 11th Imams were buried and from where, according to Shiite belief, the 12th Imam, or Mahdi was to appear. Former President Ahmadinejad, (a member of the Shiite sect of Islam, as are nearly all Iranians), years ago announced that the Mahdi is already here on earth, that he knows who he is and that he will make his appearance in Iran. So real is the belief in his soon return that actual physical preparations to receive him have begun. These included making improvements in such practical areas as railroads, and hotels and crowd control.[vi] So other preparations are going on too; – military ones. With the aid of one Hassan Abassi, the “Dr Kissinger of Islam,” the hot religionist Iranian leadership has coldly analyzed the situation and put together a formidable strategy to enable both the ascendance of Iran and the return of the Islamic Messiah. Iran has what they believe are decisive advantages in the struggle.
- MORE WARRIORS – First of all, in the words of Amir Taheri, “Islam has four times as many young men of fighting age as the West, with its ageing populations.” They intend to swarm the West. The immigrant invasion of Europe – with its overload of military age males traveling without families – is a part of that processs.
- WILLINGNESS TO FIGHT – Islamic youth do not fear death. In many areas they are inculcated with a jihadist hate – along with an unwavering faith in the martyr’s reward. [Get ready you 72 virgins!) Decadent Western youth are unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to maintain their own civilization. They’ve been indoctrinated with a false sense of culpability of Western culture for just about everything that is wrong with the world. And what’s really remarkable is that the general population doesn’t even recognize the danger.
- HATRED OF AMERICA & ISRAEL – Both the US and Israel are despised by both Muslim and secular nations around the world. [While admittedly imperfect, these nations are the very ones purposefully dedicated to God at their founding!]
So for Iran; – religious beliefs are translating into power politics. Iran has become the beloved financier of the popular Hamas wing of the Palestinian cause; – the cause celebre of all Islam. Over time they have built a terror network throughout the region including in operations in such US ‘allies’ as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. It is all part of the great End Times struggle between good (Islam) and evil (the unbelievers). This battle against The Great Satan, (America), is just part of the process of bringing about the return of the 12th Mahdi, – The Islamic Messiah.[vii]
