PART V – THE WORLD’S OBSESSION
Look at the headlines, and you can see that much of the world is fixated on the fate of Jerusalem. Included in this array are the surrounding Arab nations, the Iranians, the EU, the UN, Russia, the Vatican and more – and on the other side, at least while the current administration is in office, the United States. We know prophetically that in the Last Days, all the world will come against it. Zechariah 12:2-3 contains a warning. “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.” But that preoccupation is concentrated even more upon the Temple Mount – the seat of a future Third Temple.
Now, one Israeli politician is actually campaigning on the premise of building that temple in the immediate present. Here’s the story from Breaking Israel News. “For the first time ever, an Israeli politician has had the temerity to publicly declare what, for more than 2,000 years, the Jewish people have prayed for: build the Temple now. Moshe Feiglin, head of the Zehut party, shocked participants at a Maariv/Jerusalem Post conference in Tel Aviv …. ‘I don’t want to build a (Third) Temple in one or two years, I want to build it now,” Feiglin said to the crowd. “To build the Temple I need support, I can’t do it alone.’” Of course the call is controversial. It could lead to violence – or even war in the region. Rabbi Chaim Amsalem refuted those claims. “We do not want war. The time to build the Temple is when the entire world wants it and that time is very close indeed.”[i] It is a revolutionary call. Not sometime in the future. But now!
In an earlier installment we saw that it was the main goal of Freemasonry. It is in fact, the centerpiece of the Masonic religion. [And Masonry is known to be a religion by all of the higher orders.] David Bay of Cutting Edge Ministries quotes Edward Waite in his A New Encyclopedia of Freemasonry… “The Temple of Masonry is hence forward the house of Christ.” However, He’s not talking about the Christian Jesus here. Bay’s explanation: “The naive might think Waite is referring to Jesus Christ, but Waite did not say that, did he? Do you know that the term ‘Christ’ literally means the ‘office of the promised Messiah?’ Jesus fulfilled that office when He lived and ministered among men. Since Masonry is a counterfeit Christianity, it seems logical that Mackey and Waite might be talking about Antichrist, not Jesus Christ. Therefore, Waite really said: ‘The Temple of Masonry is hence forward the house of [anti-]Christ.’ If plans are really afoot to rebuild Solomon’s Temple, it will be for Antichrist, not Jesus Christ. And we know from scripture, that that is exactly what is going to happen. We’ve quoted it here before. But here is the warning once again. “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” (2Thessalonians 2:3-4)
Peter Lemesurier, a New Age author who penned the Armageddon Script in 1980, revealed the plan to bring the Antichrist to power. At one point he describes a possible scenario for this contrived and humanly-produced messiah figure to come to power. “…it may be possible for the New David to ride into Jerusalem in all his resplendent majesty … The processional route will, of course, lie directly across the Kidron ravine, as close as possible to the Temple Mount … he must be duly enthroned and anointed with oil (in token of Psalm 45:6-7) amid the rubble of the dome of the Rock.”[ii]
David Bay chimes in with one other piece of information we did not cover earlier in this series. “Masonry teaches that King Solomon did not follow God’s plan exactly, so that another Mason must come along to correct that error? ‘Zohar teaches that Solomon’s Temple was not built according to the original plans … In a word, the Lord did not build the House, and they laboured in vain that built it … There is a time, however, to come when the Holy One shall remember His people, Israel, and the Lord shall build the House.’”[iii]
And there it is; that obsession. From observant Jews and Kabbalistic, mystical Jews and Evangelical Christians and as we saw Freemasons and the Vatican – not to mention the political players. The Temple! Jerusalem! Always part of the global equation. Even David Ben-Gurion, the human founding force behind and first prime minister of modern Israel envisioned a role for a Temple in Jerusalem. Ben-Gurion was a man who wandered through the religious wilderness, journeying from atheist to pantheist to a confused affirm of an almighty God that he did not know. Yet the Temple to him was something that would someday come. And despite his professed aversion to Judaism, he would quote or reference the Bible in his speeches. This father of the revived state of Israel foresaw a revived Temple as a center of global worship that would unite the peoples of the earth. “In Jerusalem, the United Nations (a truly United Nations) will build a Shrine of the Prophets to serve the federated union of all continents; this will be the seat of the Supreme Court of Mankind, to settle all controversies among the federated continents, as prophesied by Isaiah.”[iv]
And a Temple is certainly coming. Scripture tells us so. And Scripture has never been wrong. It is the word of God. Just as surely as the Bible told that the Jews would be gathered again to the Land that God has promised them, so too will a Temple be built. This next one will be the one usurped by the Antichrist in the middle of the Tribulation.
So as we see these events unfold, we are looking at the human outworking of God’s plan. Israel has come back to the Land – 1948. Jerusalem was restored to the Jews – 1967. And the plans for a Temple are in place. We live in prophetic times – on the edge of the Last Days and the coming of Messiah. Yes, the Antichrist, the Man of Sin, will reveal himself in the Temple claiming to be god himself. But there will come a defining moment in the story, when God’s people will recognize Him and mourn and repent and worship their Creator, their Messiah, Yeshua Ha Mashiach.
In Zechariah 12, God is revealing a portion of His plan for the Time of the End, when all the world will turn against Israel. “It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” This will lead to a transformational outcome. As the Apostle Paul writes Romans 11:25-27: “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.’” We live in truly interesting times as we get to watch the unfolding of God’s plan.
