The world is unraveling. That is the theme of this series and each week we find no lack of evidence to the contrary. In fact, there is so much evidence on this front that we cannot cover all that we would wish to. This week is no different.
THE VENEZUELAN ‘TIRE FIRE’ THAT COULD BRING ON WORLD WAR – The last week has been a disaster for Venezuela – and it seems things are only getting worse. It started with power stations going down causing blackouts. The lack of electrical power, of course had consequences. By Sunday, March 10th, looters were emptying supermarkets. That was the fifth day of blackouts. The Daily Mail reported that “Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido called for a nation-wide march on the capital to pressurise regime.” They reported that at “least 15 patients with kidney disease died after dialysis machines stopped working during power outage.”[i] Then things only got worse. “Residents of San Diego, Carabobo state, woke up to find water running black.” They woke up “to find their taps ‘running with oil’ after week-long power blackout heavily restricted the supply.”[ii]
While the physical infrastructure was failing the US announced that it would be withdrawing “all remaining diplomatic personnel” from the country.[iii] The removal of diplomats from a nation often signals the onset of war. President Maduro is blaming the blackouts on cyber attacks by the US coming from Houston and Chicago. The United States is known to favor regime change in favor of the opposition leader. Maduro did refuse food aid from the US. And now Hal Turner Radio is reporting “Multiple explosions from unknown origin rocked the Petro San Félix oil refinery near San Diego de Cabrutica in Anzoategui, Venezuela.”[iv] As reported here earlier, the US has landed 5,000 troops in neighboring Columbia. The Columbian military is also said to be ready to move against Maduro’s regime, which is supported by the Russians and the Chinese. On March 12th, Dave Hodges of The Common Sense Show wrote:
“In anticipation of a US attack on Venezuela, the Russians have moved a sizeable number of submarines 12 miles off both the East and West coast of the United States. NATO has moved nuclear missiles batteries close to the Ukraine. Yesterday, Russian ally, Syria, military threatened Israel. Why would a military inferior force such as Syria threaten a superior force in Israel, unless Syria knew it was going to have help from her ally, Russia? As I reported yesterday, the Border Patrol has reported arresting a record number of people from Pakistan and more importantly, China! Finally, it was widely reported when the Russian nuclear targeting of American sites was announced, that if Clinton had won the election, the Russians would launched a first strike against America.”[v]
This is especially disturbing in the light of a series of war-gaming scenarios conducted by Rand that pitted the American military and naval forces against those of Russia and China. As Business Insider reports: “The US might very well lose a high-end fight against a near-peer threat like China or Russia. ‘In our games, when we fight Russia and China, ‘blue’ gets its ass handed to it,’ said David Ochmanek, a RAND analyst, referring to a color code used for the US. In these simulated fights, an aggressor force obliterates US stealth fighters on the runway, sinks US warships, destroys US bases, and takes out critical US military systems.” The simulations suggest that most of the US Fleet would be “wiped off the board.”[vi]
THE ISAIAH FACTOR – To anyone who understands the balance of military power in the Middle East, this sounds crazy – like President Assad is drinking more than the Kool Aid. Damascus is threatening to go to war with Israel over the Golan. Here’s the report from The Jerusalem Post. “Syria vowed to attack Israel unless it withdraws from the Golan Heights, World Israel News reported on Thursday. Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad submitted an official warning to the head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) Kristin Lund, in what seemed to be an attempt to prevent official US recognition of Israeli sovereignty in the Golan.”[vii] Washington is gearing up to possibly do just that. But methinks that Assad wouldn’t make such a step without the support of Moscow in the matter. It’s been reported that the Russians have deployed missiles to Syria. And Iran is hoping to use Syrian territory to set up offensive bases near the Israeli border. But then there’s the prophecy of Isaiah 17. Here is the prophecy rendered in the New Living Translation. “This message came to me concerning Damascus: ‘Look, the city of Damascus will disappear! It will become a heap of ruins. The towns of Aroer will be deserted. Flocks will graze in the streets and lie down undisturbed, with no one to chase them away. The fortified towns of Israel[a] will also be destroyed, and the royal power of Damascus will end. All that remains of Syria will share the fate of Israel’s departed glory,’ declares the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” (Isaiah 17:1-3) And then the closing comment found in verses 12-14. “Listen! The armies of many nations roar like the roaring of the sea. Hear the thunder of the mighty forces as they rush forward like thundering waves. But though they thunder like breakers on a beach, God will silence them, and they will run away. They will flee like chaff scattered by the wind, like a tumbleweed whirling before a storm. In the evening Israel waits in terror, but by dawn its enemies are dead. This is the just reward of those who plunder us, a fitting end for those who destroy us.”
