The short history of modern Israel is replete with examples of God’s miraculous interventions – saving lives and providing victory. It was true in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and again in the Six Day War of 1967. The latest missile assault by Iran was no exception. God’s hand was truly on His People that day.
“‘Had it not been the Lord who was on our side When people rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was kindled against us; Then the waters would have flooded over us, The stream would have swept over our souls; Then the raging waters would have swept over our souls.’ Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.” (Psalm 124:2-6) (NASB)
The Iranians fired off 180 missiles at Israel that day. These were not low-tech rockets. These were missiles often with large payloads. All three aspects of Israel’s air defense systems were put in play. The Arrow system targets missiles that travel out of the atmosphere. It has a range of 1,500 miles. David’s Sling handles mid-range launches up to about 186 miles. And then there is the vaunted Iron Dome which can blow up short range rockets or missiles up to 45 miles out. The three systems worked in unison almost flawlessly. But some of the Iranian missiles got through. They were not intercepted. Some fell on Tel Aviv. Some were aimed at Mossad Headquarters. Some struck Israel’s Nevatim Air Base. There was some damage there. But even then there was no reduction in the IAF’s capability to operate. Of the few that did get through, most landed harmlessly….in sand, on sidewalks, in empty spaces. Hundreds of missiles and spent casings falling – and the only casualty was a laborer from Gaza, killed in Jericho in the West Bank, by falling missile debris. Israel has promised that a military response is coming.[i]
“My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who watches over you will not slumber. Behold, He who watches over Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.”
(Psalm 121:2-4) (NASB)
Meanwhile the war in the north of Israel and southern Lebanon grew hotter. Israel launched hundreds of air strikes. The Daily Mail reported “smoke was seen rising from buildings struck in Hezbollah’s attacks after explosions rang out in Tel Aviv.” Israel launched an incursion into Lebanon.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari revealed intel that pointed to Hezbollah preparing an “October 7-style massacre. Hezbollah turned Lebanese villages next to Israeli villages into military bases ready for an attack on Israel. These localised ground raid raids will target Hezbollah strongholds that threaten Israeli towns, kibbutzim and communities along our border.”[ii]
In what appears to be a risky bit of escalation, Israel launched a land and sea missile attack striking very close to a Russian air base near Latakia, Syria. The base is reported to house Iranian weapons. As many as 30 missiles were fired triggering huge secondary explosions.[iii] In addition, the IDF confirmed that it struck Hezbollah’s Intel HQ in Beirut. News 18, New Delhi, India reports: “Russia has issued an urgent directive for its citizens to leave Israel following Israeli airstrikes near the Khmeimim base in Syria, which Russia operates.”[iv] It’s not hard to figure out what that could mean.
