Despite what the Democrats in Congress say, there is a MASSIVE crisis at our southern border. It is expected that 100,000 illegals will attempt to cross the border in the next month – up from 2,000 last year at this time. That’s up ONLY an increase of 98,000 from the same time last year.[i] What’s changed? Those that would want to crash the system want a collapse. Don’t fool yourself. This is not an organic movement. To truck those 1,500 miles or so on foot takes a lot of logistical planning. And a lot of money. This has all the markings of an engineered crisis.
Kevin McAleenan is the Commissioner of US Customs and Border Patrol. He described the situation on a recent trip to El Paso. “Two weeks ago, I briefed the media and testified in Congress that our immigration system was at the breaking point. That breaking point has arrived this week at our border. CBP is facing an unprecedented humanitarian and border security crisis all along our southwest border,” McAleenan said. “On Monday and Tuesday CBP started the day with over 12,000 migrants in our custody. As of this morning, that number was 13,400. A high number for us is 4,000. A crisis level is 6,000 – 13,000 is unprecedented.”[ii] Now, despite what their Congressional party-mates are saying, former Obama administration officials are chiming in that President Trump’s use of the term “crisis” is accurate indeed.
But while the numbers that are now crossing may be astronomical, the worst – it seems – is yet to come. Mexico issued a warning this last week that “the mother of all migrant caravans” is about to head to the US border. The NY Post reports: “We have information that a new caravan is forming in Honduras, that they’re calling ‘the mother of all caravans,’ and they are thinking it could have more than 20,000 people.” That comes on the heels of a 2,500 strong group of Cubans and Central Americans headed their now. Mexico has promised a “line of containment” after the President threatened to close all or some of the border to all traffic including trade.[iii]
[One observation on the legal status of Central Americans seeking asylum in the United States. It is my understanding that under international law, sanctuary must be sought when they cross out of their own and into the next country. That would mean that Mexico is where they should be applying. So even the asking for asylum in the US should be illegal. Of course, this does not seem to be a determining factor in the process right now…..Just sayin’.][i] Over 100K illegal immigrants predicted to cross US border: reports, NY Post, March 30, 2019
