Have you ever heard someone say “I have trouble believing there’s a God when there’s so much evil in the world?” Interestingly… just in making that statement they acknowledge there has to be a God.
Follow me here- If evil exists in the world today (and anyone would agree it does) then good must exist in the world in association. You can’t say something is evil unless you have something that is good to compare it to, right? Now if there is good and if there is evil, how is it we can distinguish between the two? That has to come from a moral law. So if there’s a moral law that allows us to recognize good from evil, then there must be a moral law giver.
Here’s another question that may follow… “If there is a God, why then does He allow so much evil?” Let me offer up a condensed biblical explanation. When God created man He gave him the ability to choose good from evil. Not wanting to force us to love Him (which of course He could have, because He’s God), He lets us decide the path we want to follow. You see, there is no real love without freedom. Unfortunately for the ones who choose good, bad things can still happen to them because others have chosen evil.
We presently live separated from God in a world full of evil and disease, but in God’s perfect timing, Jesus will return to set it all straight. Those who make the conscious decision to trust in Him now will be the ones spared from eternal separation from Him later.
Far from being cruel and egotistical, God does not condemn anyone to the Hell He has created for the fallen angels. On the contrary, He wants to rescue us from it! He is pleading with us through the Holy Spirit and His Word…Choose Me, Choose Me! Jesus Christ is the absolute only way to God because God has decided so. Problem solved!
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT) “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life…”
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV), “…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve….But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
