Quietly the United States has been moving military assets into place in the countries bordering Venezuela – the socialist nightmare state in the throes of collapse. But the Russians – and now the Chinese – both with interests to protect in that nation are making moves of their own. Over the last several years, China has taken an interest – a financial interest in developing the ample oil reserves there. They’ve sent hundreds of millions of dollars worth of arms. Now they’ve landed 120 military personnel – right when the bullets might be ready to fly. The excuse: Their delivering “humanitarian aid.” The fact: It’s a power play. Moscow too, has sent over about 100 personnel to train troops in the use of helicopters. Russia Insider credits the LA Times with this analysis of the situation. “‘China and Russia are Venezuela’s two main creditors, and they have been the principal economic force keeping the Maduro government afloat, making the difference between solvency and bankruptcy, financial experts say.’ Interestingly, the LA Times report, however, made a distinction that China and Russia pursued different attitudes toward their financial commitments in Venezuela, with China being ‘more pragmatic’ and Russia ‘more ideological.’ Whereas for its investment, Beijing sought to receive raw materials, cheap oil and other returns, Moscow was credited with having greater interest in ‘in extending its military presence and setting up a beachhead in the Americas — and within spitting distance of the United States’”[i]
Charles Mudede points out the danger in the situation. This is a – rumor of war – worth taking note of. The US has been moving without worry, maneuvering to oust Nicolas Maduro, who is doing such a bang up job that he’s managed to create starvation conditions for his own people despite having gigantic oil reserves. Mudede writes: “Then the Russians arrived and began supporting the socialist leader that the US wants to oust, Nicolas Maduro. And now a team from the largest standing army in the world, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, have, according to Al-Masdar News, been deployed to a crisis that’s becoming more and more dangerous. What this means is that three major nuclear-weapon countries are converging on Venezuela.”[ii]
