“But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.” (Luke 21:9)
The entire Ukraine narrative has been one big lie. It was never what it was made out to be. Ukraine IS NOT a democracy. Zelensky was not the second coming of either Winston Churchill nor George Washington. He is by contrast a tin pot dictator arresting his opponents, targeting churches, closing down opposition media and raking in money off the top of the generous foreign aid being sent to his country. Western support of Ukraine in this proxy war against Russia is reaching a critical stage. After much wrangling, NATO has opened the floodgates of military support for Kiev. After telling us for months that Ukraine was winning, the West was forced to admit the truth. Ukraine is on the verge of collapse. But they believe, they tell us, that just another wave of support and the Ukrainian forces will be able to turn the tide and force Russia back out of Ukrainian territory and win the war. [Good drugs, I suppose!] So, let’s set up the latest giftings to the war effort.
We’ve got to start by noting that Russa has warned that German tanks on Russian soil – and that soil includes the newly absorbed Russian-speaking provinces in the Donbass – will be considered an attack by NATO forces on Russia, thereby making NATO territory – of at least the offending nations – legitimate targets. [Are we talking nukes here? There is some ambiguity.] Here is some of what was promised. The Netherlands wanted to transfer F-16s to Ukraine, but needed the US’s permission. This last week they got that. Of course, it would take months of training to be able to operate those planes. It is being suggested that the likely solution would be to have NATO pilots “quit the service” and then volunteer to fly for Ukraine.[i]
Next came Ukraine’s plea for massive military aide. Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, addressed the World Economic Forum meeting with a frank request. “We [Ukraine] are carrying out ‘ mission today. They aren’t shedding their blood. We’re shedding ours. That’s why they’re required to supply us with weapons.” It was a request that was right to the point. This is a war by the West against Russia – in fact, for the destruction of Russia – so a conventional Russian defeat would likely have nuclear consequences. The statement of principle at Davos was followed by General Valerii Zaluzhnyi coming forward with a shopping list.
“I know I can beat this enemy. But I need resources. I need 300 tanks, 600-700 IFV’s [infantry fighting vehicles], 500 Howitzers. Then, I think it is completely realistic to get to the lines of February 23rd.” In the event, America and its’ European allies promised about half of that amount.[ii]
Poland had been wanting to send its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine but needed the permission of the manufacturing country, Germany. Germany was hesitant – but finally gave in under pressure. The US immediately began offering tanks of its’ own. Different sources are giving different numbers but according to the New York Times, the allies seem to have pledged about 105 tanks – many of which would not be ready for months.[iii] Some tanks, coming from Poland, could arrive much sooner.
The Russian Ambassador weighed in. “’This extremely dangerous decision takes the conflict to a new level of confrontation, and contradicts statements by German politicians about the unwillingness of the German Federation to get involved in it.” The Daily Mail reported: “The United States will provide 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in a deal worth $400 million, reports Bloomberg, while Berlin will initially supply 14 Leopard 2 tanks.”[iv]
On the surface it seems nonsensical to being pursuing a war with Russia, probably the world’s foremost nuclear power both in numbers and delivery systems. This is especially true at a time when the Pentagon is warning the politicians that stocks of military equipment and ammunition are running dangerously low in many NATO countries including the United States. But it has become a mantra of the political class. We must fight Russia. It doesn’t matter that Russia is no longer Communist or that it has no designs on conquering Europe. This is a dangerous game being played by the West.
To drive that point home, the Russian Navy conducted a simulated missile launch in the Atlantic not far from the American coast. Hal Turner reported. “A Russian Navy ship in the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda, conducted a simulated launch of a ZIRCON Hypersonic Missile against a “nautical target 900km away.” The Simulated launch involved the use of Electronic Warfare that actually JAMMED U.S. radar, cellular phones in the Mid-Atlantic USA, and even disrupted digital internet traffic for 34 seconds! The Russian Navy Frigate ‘Admiral Gorshkov’ tested the strike capabilities of Russia’s much-hyped Zircon hypersonic missile in the western Atlantic Ocean. People in the mid-Atlantic region of the US experienced electronic warfare jamming of civilian devices like cellular phones and Internet for 34 seconds. One source reports via COVERT INTEL ‘In accordance with the training situation, the frigate practiced arranging a ZIRCON hypersonic missile strike against a maritime target at a distance over 900 kilometers away.’”[v]
The Stakes
The stakes in this game are different for each side. The US & the West want to make Ukraine part of NATO. That would mean Western arms, including missiles, just minutes from Moscow and the Russian nuclear arsenal – a mirror image of the Cuban Missile Crisis. So, for Russia it is not so much about power as it is about neutralizing an existential threat. And as Scott Ridder explains, it goes even deeper than that all the way back to the Second World War when Russia fought the Nazis in the bloodiest battles of that horrific war. Ukraine is tainted by the offspring of that cancerous fascism. It has metastasized within – not all – but a significant portion of the Ukrainian nation.
“The forces of fascism have once again reared their odious heads, this time manifested in a Ukrainian government motivated by the neo-Nazi ultra-nationalistic ideology of Stepan Bandera and his ilk. Bandera and his murderous movement had been physically defeated by Soviet forces in the decade following the end of the Second World War. However, its ideology survived in a western Ukrainian diaspora formed from the survivors of that movement who found safe haven in West Germany (where Bandera himself settled until assassinated by the Soviet KGB in 1959); Canada (where Chrystia Freeland, the granddaughter of a former publisher of pro-Bandera propaganda, currently serves as deputy prime minister), and the United States (where the followers of Stepan Bandera have constructed a ‘heroes park’ outside Ellenville, New York, including a bust of Bandera and other neo-Nazi Ukrainian ultra-nationalists.)”
Then in 1956, the CIA entered the game running operations in a political underground manned by Ukrainian fascists and conducting sabotage operations. After the fall of the Soviet Empire in 1991, “Ukrainian nationalists emerged from the shadows and began organizing into political parties backed by gangs of violence-prone extremists who promulgated, through physical intimidation, a cult of personality built around the person of Stepan Bandera.” Over time, political parties such as “Svoboda (‘Freedom’) and the Right Sector came into being. Although lacking support among the majority of the Ukrainian population, these groups were able to leverage their penchant for organization and violence into a dominant role in the riots that broke out in Maidan Square in Kiev, in early 2014, that led to the ouster of democratically-elected Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych and his replacement by a government of people hand-picked by the United States.” Due to an intercepted phone call, we know that Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and the American Ambassador to Ukraine at the time were involved in the illegal transfer of power. And thus was memorialized that Nazi influence in Ukrainian political circles.
So, the West is going ahead with this giant transfer of equipment to the Ukrainians – and yet it will not be nearly enough. Ritter: “The reality is most of this equipment won’t last a month under combat conditions; even if the Russians don’t destroy them, maintenance issues will.” The systems being provided all have issues and they all require different maintenance skills. And even General Zaluzhnyi admits that even if he gets all the promised forces together in a timely fashion it will still be an insufficient force. But he will be expected to go forward. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians will lose their lives. [But that is a cost the West seems willing to pay.]
Germany’s Foreign Minister Alena Baerbock gave clarity to what is really happening here. This is a war by the West against Russia. “We have to do more to defend Ukraine. We have to do more also on tanks. But the most important and the crucial part is that we do it together. And that we do not do the blame game in Europe because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other.”[vi] Russia’s #2 man, Dmitri Medvedev summed it up succinctly. This poses a threat of global devastation. Referring to the Western leaders: “None of them gets it that a nuclear power’s loss of a conventional war can lead to a nuclear one. Nuclear powers haven’t been defeated in major conflicts crucial for their destiny.”[vii] Russia will not allow itself to be defeated. For the Russians, this is an existential war. If America is not careful, it will be an existential war for us too.
