I’m going to try to cover a very complex and detailed story in the most ‘efficient’ & shortest way possible. Some of this may just be bullet points with the details filled in later. But I think we all need to consider the essentials so we can understand just what we may be up against in the coming months or the next couple years.
- The CEO of Shell Oil went on CNBC and told the world, “The price signals are that we are short on diesel and gasoline.” This is bigger than it may sound from that almost innocuous statement. When the Iran war started, the oil companies knew that closing up the Strait of Hormuz, which accounted for 20% of the global oil trade, would shatter the markets. There would be a shortage of aviation fuel. So they moved their production in that direction.[i] Mike Adams went into some detail on the possible repercussions. “My own research says we can power through the gasoline shortage, but diesel shortages will worsen. At first, even in the USA, this will only mean higher diesel prices ($8 – $10 per gallon is where this is headed). But later this year, if oil shipments out of the SoH are not fully resuming (which seems impossible), we will almost certainly encounter a situation of “rationing” that won’t be called rationing. There will be scarcity, and allotments for various fuel distributors, in other words, and never enough diesel to go around.” Of course, that will affect agriculture, food pricing ands distribution, construction, the trucking industry etc. He believes the entire system could be in jeopardy.[ii]
- Back in May, Neil Chapman, Senior Vice-President of Exxon had much the same message. He warned of shortages in all petroleum-based products. He predicted that could be trading at $150 to $160 per barrel by the end of the year.[iii] To the contrary however, as I write this, Brent Crude was going at a bit over $79 per barrel.[iv]
- The US trucking industry is already showing signs of cracking. “Ten freight and freight-dependent businesses filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy” during a two week period in July. Hal Turner points out: “These bankruptcies tell us that companies can no longer pass on the cost of fuel to their customers, and they can no longer absorb the losses themselves. They are simply shutting their doors.”[v]
Foreign insolvency is feeding the crisis. Japan has the third largest economy in the world – and their bond market seems on the verge of collapse. Japan holds the largest cache of US Treasury Bonds. They are in a major energy crisis. LNG is a major component of their energy solution and those prices are up 77.5% year over year. The Japanese are selling off US bonds to meet their needs. That will drive up US interest rates, so Washington is being forced to take action. A Reuters photographer took a shot of a note scribbled by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at a cabinet meeting on Friday, July 31. It was a ‘to-do’ list. And it read: “Buy Japanese Yen (JPY) $5 – 10 bil.” In other words, the US Treasury is getting ready to prop up the Japanese economy. But here’s the kicker. They are paying for it by selling-off Euros. That will be a big blow to the European economy, especially Germany, which is already struggling. The European Central Bank could sell off its’ own Dollar reserves. And Japanese government bonds are “creeping toward levels that make Japan’s sovereign debt load mathematically impossible to service. The Japanese bond market is in danger of collapse.[vi]
It’s at this point that I’m going to pivot to an area that I generally stay clear of: That of personal prophecy. [I must admit, I do not trust the words of many who style themselves modern prophets.] I am making the exception in the case of the late David Wilkerson, who over the years has revealed what God has shown him in visions. Much of what he has spoken has already come true. [Here is one instance. In 1973 Wilkerson said, “Students will be told that homosexual love is normal.” Quite the bold statement at the time.] Here is the scriptural warrant for the legitimacy of that claim in certain cases. [But discernment MUST ALWAYS be applied.] “And it shall come to pass, in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17)
Anyway, here is a bit of his 1973 prophetic sermon titled ‘The Vision,’ that may apply. He saw “an economic recession that’s going to affect the lifestyle of every wage earner in the world. The world economists are going to] [be lost to explain what’s happening. It’s going to start in Germany, spread to Japan and finally to the United States. Large and trusted corporations are going to go bankrupt. Many churches are going to go into bankruptcy, and some missionary projects are going to flounder.”[vii] [Again, this isn’t biblical truth – nor to be taken on par with it…..But there is an interesting – possible – future correlation.]
- Then there is the global food situation. Some experts are saying that a global food crisis has already begun. It is reported that 49 million people already suffer from acute hunger. There are a number of factors at play here. Morocco has experienced 7 years of drought, a factor contributing to the fact that 60,000 of them invaded the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and wreaked chaos on the population there. Record temperatures across Europe & the UK have devastated crop yields. The US will have the smallest wheat harvest in over s50 years. Then add in the fertilizer shortage in play since the start of the War in Ukraine. An NPR report outlined the situation, predicting that in America, there will be sufficient food for awhile. We are living off of last year’s harvest. So, the real danger will come after “the next harvest, as we move towards the middle of the year and the end of the year, we will have less supply, less stocks, and as a result, higher prices. And this will exacerbate more next year if this situation doesn’t stop…. if you open the Strait of Hormuz tomorrow, we will still have higher prices because of less supply, because farmers already made a decision, but we could avoid a significant crisis by the end of the year or 2027.”[viii] [ix]
- Since the start of the Iran conflict, and the effective closure of the Gulf of Hormuz, the Saudis and other Gulf States have been improvising a new route for their oil exports using the Bab el-Mandeb strait. Now, Iran’s allies, the Houthis are striking ships in that region. In addition, strikes on Egypt near the Suez Canal are threatening yet another crucial petroleum route.[x] If the Iranians succeed in closing down or significantly affecting the flow of oil and other essentials through those routes, the pressure on the Global Economy will be enormous.
- Multiple sources are reporting that US munition stocks are dangerously low. “The United States has burned through most of its long-range precision munitions during the ongoing war with Iran, raising concerns about the Pentagon’s ability to respond to other crises around the globe, in particular a potential showdown with China in the Pacific or in Europe against Russia.”[xi]
- Iran has alleged – and it seems obvious – that they have used each of the bombing pauses to re-arm with the help of their allies. It is estimated that they have about 70% of the fire power they had at the start of the conflict. And as we already mentioned, America – at ;east according to reports ….has depleted much of its’ supply of munitions. While getting beaten like a drum, Iran has managed to survive the massive onslaught.
Now, we know that in the End Times, Iran – called Persia in scripture – must survive as an enemy regime of Israel. According to Ezekiel 38, they will a key part of the Magog coalition that comes against Israel. God Himself will destroy Israel’s enemies in that confrontation.
Wow, I hated writing all of this….But felt I couldn’t leave it unsaid. It is a biblical principle that a watchman must call out the danger. So, what are we to take out of all of this? Danger is real….though not certain in its’ timing. I’m not saying that we should all go out and get 96 months of food and 12,000 rounds of ammunition. Yes, we should be physically prepared as we can reasonably prepare – Joseph was told to prepare for the 7 years of famine – but that should not be our main focus. What we need is spiritual preparedness. We need to be listening for – and hearing the Holy Spirit. And we need to examine ourselves and abandon our sins to make that line of communication stronger. Habitual, ongoing sin hardens our hearts and builds a barrier between us and God. “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” (Ephesians 4:18) (ESV) As we hear from God through His Holy Spirit, He will guide us through all we have to face. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
The Enemy may have his plans – but He is no match for our God. We know that we can trust Him because of who He is! “I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me.”
(Jeremiah 32:27) (NLT) There is a scripture that conveys both comfort and reverent fear. And that’s exactly what we need as we face these End Times.
