Scripture seems clear. There will be a Third Temple built in the Last Days. It will, unfortunately be an edifice of the Antichrist. Of course, it will not seem so at first. It will look like part of the edifice of Global Peace that will be promised by the Antichrist. But it will be nothing of the sort. Here is one scripture that defines that time. We will start with the New King James version.
“Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” (Daniel 9:27) [OK, everybody got that?]
Here’s what we can know. It is the Antichrist (AC) that confirms some sort of covenant with Israel. The Temple is in the process of being rebuilt. We know this because, in the middle of this whole thing, the sacrifice is brought to an end. That’s all Temple stuff. And then bad stuff starts to happen. But we’ll just concentrate on the Temple stuff right now.
We are living in a time when there are forces out there that are seeking to rebuild the Temple. This would be the third Temple. The first Temple was built by Solomon. Then there was Herod’s Temple. It was destroyed in AD 70 by the Romans. But there is a role for the Third Temple in the End Times. It is scriptural and there are human forces trying to make it happen…..including the Freemasons…..And perhaps we will get to that in the future. But for now, we will tack a different track.
Now, the Sanhedrin is an ancient Jewish ruling body that has been reconstituted about 2004. That was the court that illegally condemned Jesus to death. But they exist again today. And they’ve been given a kind of honored status if not a totally legally-binding one. In February of 2025, they sent a letter to President Trump asking him to fulfil a “heavenly mission” and arrange for the building of a Third Temple.[i] Of course, this would involve building on what the Muslims consider among their holiest ground, where the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque now stand. Many see this as a “heavenly mission.” They believe Trump will be the one to facilitate the building of the Third Temple.
Influential Rabbis believe “We will all see the building of the Third Temple in Jerusalem very soon.” One Messianic Rabbi – [meaning a rabbi who believes in Jesus as Messiah] – puts it this way: “Israel is God’s prophetic time piece. The fact that there is now talk about the rebuilding of the Temple, tells us, all of this tells us that is going to lead to the Antichrist, the False Messiah, and the return of the Lord.” The US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth has been seen openly talking about the reestablishment of the Temple on the Temple Mount. But a careful reading of Scripture, reveals that this Temple, while its’ coming is prophetically assured – will be the Temple of Antichrist. Yet the Jews believe that that without the Temple, their religious rights are ‘incomplete.’ The Jewish Messiah, they tell us is not the same Messiah that most people think about. Christians expect a divine Messiah. [We get this out or the Hebrew Scripture. Isaiah 9:6: “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (NLT) So, that’s in contradiction to their own scripture. According to their own scripture, the Messiah is supposed to be “Mighty God.”
One Rabbi explains modern Jewish belief. “What we have in Messiah, is a man. A king of this earth. Who is going to bring peace among the nations, in this world….According to Jewish tradition, there are three things he is supposed to do. He is to reconstitute the Jewish kingdom. He is going to bring peace with the neighbors. And number three he is going to rebuild the Temple.” So, many of the Jews are expecting a man / king that will come to bring world peace, will establish a government and rebuild the Temple. The funny thing is this. If we look at the prophetic outline of the End Times, these are the exact same things that the Antichrist is supposed to bring into the world. all of this. We no longer need a physical temple made of bricks and mortar. We are the Temple of God “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1Corinthians 6:19-20)
Regarding the physical temple that is coming….And it IS Coming….despite all the ceremonially pure Red Heifers they find, the next Temple will be the Temple of Antichrist. It will be a False Temple. It will begin as a place that seems like a place of safety and affirmation for the Jewish People….But in the middle of the Tribulation this will be revealed to be a false promise. Look at 2Thessalonians 2:1-4: “Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”
There is a concerted effort ginning up to build a Third Temple. Of course, Israel’s Muslim neighbors will have something to say about this. [Perhaps this is the key to a coming Psalm 83 War, of the inner circle of Israel hating countries. More on that later.] But any move in that direction would come with massive opposition from the Islamic world. It could be the set up for a series of End Times events. In any case, this is just another area in which we are on the cusp of biblical fulfillments. It’s time to get things straight with our Creator. And there is only one way to do that. It is through complete surrender to the Lordship of Jesus, His Son. In other words, to be born again.
