Developments in the Middle East have the war drums beating.
This all began to come to light on the 22nd of January when DEBKA reported that Syria had “ordered a Level 4 mobilization of Syria’s army reserves for deployment to the Golan Heights on the Israeli border.” They used the excuse of “IDF plans of attack” to justify placing armored and commando forces in place to contest the Golan, which overlooks Israel. In the days before the ’67 War, the Syrians were able to place artillery on these heights and rain down fire on the Israelis. This is strategically essential territory, necessary for the survival of the Jewish state. At the same time, Hezbollah was ratcheting up the readiness of its forces in Lebanon, just across Israel’s northern border.

So what was going on? It seems that this was all coming at a time when the US was pressuring the Israelis to accept the status quo with regard to the Iranian nuclear weapons program.
