Whatever the intent of the assassin or the conspiracy to take the life of Charlie Kirk, it is not having the desired effect. Charlie was a man of faith. And it was his belief in Jesus that drove and informed his political / philosophical beliefs. There seem to be two primary outcomes taking place. One is political and the other concerns the increasing interest in getting closer to God through the Christian Faith. The Western Journal reported on an explosion of church attendance that is taking place. Pastor Craig Dyson of Convo Church in Reno said it was “unlike anything we’ve seen. We were filled to overflowing. “We had more people give their life to Christ yesterday than we’ve ever had on a single Sunday and it was absolutely incredible to watch.” I saw the same thing in the suburban Buffalo church that I attend. The Catholic News Agency reported the same phenomenon. Attendance at Masses is way up.[i]
Instead of silencing Kirk, the bullet that killed Charlie just ended up pushing his views out to millions more. “Ryan Visconti, lead pastor at Generation Church in Mesa, Arizona, said Kirk’s beliefs have been laid before millions of Americans as never before during the coverage of his assassination.” Many are being exposed to the logic and veracity of Christian beliefs for the very first time. “I think people are going to look at what Charlie believed in a new light….I think he will continue to have a lasting impact for many, many years to come, especially with the younger generation.”[ii]
People are being called to faith in Jesus Christ. And at the same time there is the political effect. 95,000 people attended Charlie’s memorial service. Over 200,000 registered to attend the event. Vigils were held across the country, overwhelmingly with themes lifting up Jesus in the process. Interest in his organization, Turning Point USA is exploding. In 2024 there were about 2,100 high school and college chapters of TPUSA. Now, “inquiries for new chapters and information on joining surged to over 120,000 requests following Charlie’s funeral on Sunday: In many cases, students say the desire to act was fueled by the tragedy itself. For them, the assassination was not only a shocking national event but also a call to continue Kirk’s work.”[iii] Could this be the seed of the revival that so many sought before Christ’s return? Father, we pray that it would be so. Let this NOT be like the ‘9/11 Revival’ that lasted about 3 weeks. Lord, that this would be a real call for many to come into the Kingdom as worshipers & disciples of Jesus.
