The Bible is clear on the coming of the Antichrist (AC). He will come to power as the result of a grand deception. “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders.” (2Thessalonians 2:9) Jesus warned: “Take heed that no one deceives you.” (Matthew24:4) But many will be deceived because “because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2Thessalonians 2:10) Truth can be a hard thing to receive, especially when it disagrees with your previously held convictions. Rejecting truth – in favor of your own agenda – comes with eternal consequences. “And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” It’s the price that an individual or a culture or a civilization will pay for standing on its’ own pride.
Can an entire culture be captured? Short answer: Yes, when it ceases following God. It was the pattern of Israel’s life as a nation. It is the pattern of history. In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus taught regarding the nature of demonic possession. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” This applies not just to individuals but to nations. Just recall what happened in Hitler’s Germany and the USSR. Solzhenitsyn cut to the point. “We had forgotten God.”
That is the story of American culture today. We have driven out any remaining vestige of the Judeo-Christian foundation upon which we were built. And we are suffering the consequences. Professing to be wise we have become fools. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18) “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting.” (Rom 1:28) America….and the West, are in the process of returning to the state of the world at the beginning of the Pagan Era. We are returning to the Days of Noah and Lot. “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot.” (Luke 17:28) These were days of violence, unrepentant evil and rampant homosexuality. The ancient culture was demon possessed. Their religious worship was twisted. When we look at today’s culture, all across the globe, we find signs of that same demonic possession.
What saved the ancient world, what brought them out of that darkness, was the preaching of the Gospel. Jonathan Cahn describes what went on – and still goes on – as a “war of the gods.” It was the Gospel that “exorcised the world.” During the greatest persecution by Rome of the Christians, under the Emperor Diocletian, the Oracle at Delphi, a key pagan spokesman, declared that the Christian faith had interfered with the communication with the gods, meaning the demonic entities that posed in that role in the ubiquitous pagan system. Wherever the Christian faith prevailed, the spirits had been banished. Centuries later that was true of America. This country had been dedicated to the God of the Bible and the spread of the Gospel on numerous occasions. This was true at Jamestown in 1607, the Plymouth Colony in 1620 and at Washington’s first inaugural in New York City at Ground Zero. But since at least the1960s, we’ve been undergoing a process of abandoning God. We’ve tossed prayer out of school, embraced abortion and experienced – and continue to experience – a sexual revolution that grows ever more outlandish, perverse and absurd. So now, according to the principle we found in Matthew 12, the spirits, the ancient demonic gods, are in the process of repossessing America.
In his latest book, Messianic Rabbi Cahn lays out how the ancient gods (demons & fallen angels) have advanced the process of retaking America for the cause of Paganism. It is very specific and the evidence is specific too. The first god to come back was Baal. We see that name many times in the Bible. That ancient god entered America in force during the 60s. And any honest observer of the culture would agree that pandemonium ensued. Pandemonium is another descriptive of this god. The entire idea is to “paganize the culture.” That is the purpose of this demonic entity. Baal brings in the worship of idols, ‘Image vs Reality,’ ‘Virtual Reality vs Reality.’ The attack is on TRUTH itself. It does not exist in this world. Everyone can have their own ‘truth.’ Of course that is nonsense. This is a Culture of Confusion that is being built. The latest Supreme Court Justice cannot define who a woman is. According to the ancient legend, this spirit confuses everything. And we see this today in the definition of what is a man and what is a woman. We can’t even get that right.
It is a confusing place to be. And we’ll return to the return of the spirit of Baal next time. These are the days of The Return. And in this part of this series we’ll be looking at the three main ‘gods’ that have returned to possess our culture as we have pushed the God of the Bible out of the picture. The house has been swept clean and emptied. Therefore, the possession was inevitable.
