“In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3)
What does that passage have to do with the wars, rumors of wars and general chaos that is besetting our world right now? It is the promise of God’s ultimate comfort – and rescue from the evils of this world. We are not made for this earthly existence. We are souls that have taken on an earthly body – only to be replaced when we enter the heavenly realm. That promise of rescue is valid for anyone who has become a child of God. Jesus told us a good bit about the End Times and what it would be like before His return. On the one hand it would be business as usual before He comes. On the other hand, He tells us in Matthew 24:22 that things will get so bad that “unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved.” But God will shorten those days. There’s an answer to the apparent contradiction. But we won’t get to that until later. Let’s set the table.
Wars: Iran-v-Israel
The current round of hostilities began when Israel, frustrated at the pace of the talks between the Us & Iran and seeing the Iranian nuclear program as an existential threat, launched a well-planned preemptive attack on the Iranian nuclear program and military infrastructure as well as targeting key Iranian high-ranking personnel. Iran had enriched enough uranium to build 9 nuclear bombs and the decision to attack “was influenced by intelligence assessments indicating that Iran’s nuclear program had advanced to a critical point.”[i] Of course, Iran struck back and while Israel’s air defenses took down the majority of the missiles and drones launched by Tehran, some of the hypersonic ones did get through killing Israeli civilians in Tel Aviv and elsewhere. In the first four days, Israel’s campaign was nothing short of amazing. Israel’s Amir Tsarfati documented the progress.
“Operation “Rising Lion”: Israel’s Devastating Blows to Iran’s Nuclear and Military Might!
The IDF’s Operation “Rising Lion” is decisively targeting Iran’s nuclear program, air defenses, and regime infrastructure, significantly undermining Tehran’s strategic capabilities. ….
🧪 Nuclear Facilities: Precision strikes on Natanz, Fordo, Parchin, and Isfahan have crippled Iran’s uranium enrichment and nuclear weapons research capabilities.
🛡️ Air Defense Systems: Israel destroyed key radar sites and S-300 systems in Hamedan, Tehran, and Tabriz, exposing vulnerabilities in Iran’s aerial defense network.
🎯 Regime and Military Targets: IRGC headquarters, missile depots in Kermanshah and Khorramabad, and senior commanders like Hossein Salami were neutralized in targeted strikes.
⛽️ Energy Infrastructure: A massive explosion at South Pars gas refinery in Kangan marks Israel’s first strike on Iran’s critical oil and gas sector.
☢️ Nuclear Safety: The IAEA confirms no radiation leaks, with Bushehr and Khondab reactors remaining untouched and secure.”
In addition, the Israelis took down “the entire data infrastructure of a bank affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in a cyber operation.” The bank was used to finance terror operations. Add to that the fact that Iranians can no longer get cash from the Iranian Bank Sepah. Commentators are broadcasting their fears that the whole national banking system might collapse.[ii]
PJ Media offered their own summary of the wars progress.
- [Israel] “Established air superiority through air-launched missile attacks and drones smuggled into Iran and operating by sleeper cells.
- Severely hampered Iran’s command and control systems.
- Reduced Iran’s ballistic missile force by 15% in the opening hours of Rising Lion.
- Killed at least 14 of Iran’s top nuclear scientists.
- Eliminated by now an estimated 40% of Iran’s ballistic missile launch infrastructure.
- Destroyed several key nuclear facilities.
- Leveled key military headquarters.
- Taken out facilities used to repress and torture Iranian civilians.
- Shut down Iran’s propaganda TV network — during a live broadcast!”[iii]
Iran Is Demonstrably Losing
The Iranians have already lost layers of military leadership. Top Iranian brass was taken out the first day of the attack. Now, in many cases, their replacements are dead. The Israeli Air Force controls the skies over Tehran. Iranian air defenses have be essentially neutralized. They are quickly losing their missiles and drones both in the air and on the ground. They are losing their ability to launch. Missile salvos launched against Israel get smaller and smaller. It is now being reported that the IDF has destroyed the “backup copy” of Iran’s nuclear research.[iv] The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei is holed up with his family in the northeast sector of Tehran.[v] “According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli leaders have been told that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ‘personally ordered attacks against Israeli civilian population centers.’”[vi] It is reported that Khamenei has turned over some of his duties to the Revolutionary Guard Council.[vii] The Iranians are fully aware that they are losing as demonstrated by this CNBC headline from June 17. “Iran asked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman to ask Trump to press Israel to agree to immediate ceasefire.” It may be too late to negotiate. President Trump wrote he is expecting “Unconditional Surrender.” Vice President Vance said: “: Iran could have had a civilian nuclear program without enrichment on its territory – but it refused. President Trump may decide he must take further steps to end Iranian enrichment.”[viii]
Tehran however still does some have cards it could play. It could attack American bases in the region, which they have threatened to do. Then it could close of the Strait of Hormuz, shutting down about 21% of the world’s oil supply. That would cripple economies in many parts of the world. Finally, it could release its’ sleeper cells on American soil. The planetary economy in chaos would serve the goals of the Globalists very well, as it would pave the way for a New World Order cobbled together out of the ashes of the Old Order.[ix] And as to the sleeper cells, one al-Qaeda leader, Sa’ad al-Awlaki for Islamic jihad in the United Staes through the assassination of non-Muslim leaders, including President Trump himself. He went on to encourage the targeting of the Senate and the businesses of Elon Musk and “institutions that support the Jews and the American government like Microsoft.” I think he’s trying to build an army of equal opportunity assassins.[x]
Rumors: Is The US Getting In
As of Thursday afternoon, June 19, the participation of the US was a real and pressing question. [By the time you read this it may already be a reality. In fact, rumors have it that the US may strike as early as the evening of Friday, June 20th.] The US military is positioning itself to do so. Refueling planes have entered the area. Israel is being replenished with American missiles to replace those being used to defend against Iranian attacks. President Trump has made statements that “we” control Iranian air space, suggesting some ownership of the conflict. [Israel does indeed seem to control the skies over Iran.] The President has made veiled threats against the Ayatollah Khamenei, suggesting nothing is off the table. The Israelis are presently in firm control of this conflict. They can fly with impunity over Iranian targets bombing what they believe to be strategic targets. They have even used bunker buster bombs to strike the Arak nuclear heavy-water reactor. Iranian missile salvos continue to decrease in volume and are now targeting hospitals and other civilian sites.
Is This Conflict A ‘Just War?’
This is the crux of the matter. Wars happen. Is Israel justified? We all know that Israel is being condemned by a good portion of the world. They point out that this was a surprise attack. They call it un-provoked. They say that Iran was pursuing only an peaceful nuclear program. But this does not take into account the reality of the situation. [Now, I offer that Israel’s position should not NECESSARILY be that of the United States. Let’s start from the Israeli position. Threats calling for the destruction of Israel have been issued from Tehran for decades. Iran has financed, trained, supplied and other-wise supported various terror groups in the region including Hamas and Hezbollah. An analysis by Jay Sekulow of the ACLJ offers this. “They claim that the Israeli attack was not justified because no Iranian attack was “imminent.” This approach disregards critical context – namely, decades of indirect attacks that Iran has carried out against Israel through its terrorist proxies, repeated public vows by Iranian leadership to destroy Israel, its pursuit to develop nuclear weapons, and its refusal to reach any agreement on uranium enrichment….he fact that Iran had been attacking Israel through Hezbollah amounts to an ‘armed attack.’” Just a few years ago in 2022, a commander of Iran’s Quds Force declared: “Hezbollah’s sons are making plans to bring down the last blow against the Zionist regime . . . and to realize the wish of Imam Khomeini to eradicate Israel from the map and the face of the Earth.” There was a similar call in 2019 saying, “This sinister regime must be wiped off the map.” Even the attack on October 7, 2023, where members of Hamas raped, beheaded and baked babies, turned out to be an operation supported by Iran. Sekulow concludes, “With this information publicly available, it is erroneous to claim that Israel’s actions are not justified under international law.”[xi]
Israeli PM Netanyahu put it this way. “We’ve had half a century of conflict spread by this regime that terrorizes everyone in the Middle East; has bombed the Aramco oil fields in Saudi Arabia; is spreading terrorism and subversion and sabotage everywhere,. The ‘forever war’ is what Iran wants, and they’re bringing us to the brink of nuclear war. In fact, what Israel is doing is preventing this, bringing an end to this aggression, and we can only do so by standing up to the forces of evil.”[xii]
Is This America’s War?
And here is the most difficult issue? American hegemony might be on the line. But are we talking American dominance – or – NEOCON / DEEP STATE / NEOCON dominance. We have been dragged into wars and what I will call, faux causes, for decades now. The CIA has been operating as a regime-change machine. [We can go over the list again sometime, if that is necessary. The debacle in Ukraine is a good example of an unnecessary war that risks nuclear conflict for the cause of what? Western expansion and the dismemberment of Russia? (Look at their documents!)]] Tucker Carlson believes we are risking the American Empire by getting involved in the Iran conflict. Candace Owens and Alex Jones seem to hold similar views. These are Trump supporters who ask the legitimate question: Should America be involved in foreign wars? I can sympathize very much with that viewpoint. Some opponents of American involvement even suggest that Trump is being led by the nose by Bibi into joining the war. But here is one fact. It is very likely that only America has the weapons to take out the Iranian nuclear facility at Fordow. That weapon is the 30,000 pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator or MOP. Only the American B-2 Stealth Bomber is capable of carrying the weapon. It buries itself hundreds of feet underground before exploding. That is about 6-times larger than the bunker-busters in the Israeli arsenal. It is believed the USAF would need to drop several of these in succession – into the same hole – to destroy the Fordow facility.[xiii] One commentator asked the question: Is it in the American interest to end the sponsorship of terror and the nuclear threat posed by the Iranian regime? The answer to that question seems to be an unequivocal yes. But at what cost? Are we risking a wider conflict that could do damage to America’s presence in the world? This in not an easy question. We need to pray for godly wisdom for President Trump in this situation.
So, will we or won’t we? It has been reported that the President has already made his decision….sort of. From The Mirror: “The US president had reportedly signed off on potential attack plans aimed at crippling the Middle East state’s underground nuclear program. It was reported he had given Iran’s leaders a two-day deadline to cease all attacks on Israel or face American military action.” Under urging the President later extended the deadline. He now says that he will look at the pace of negotiations and “decide whether to launch military strikes against Iran in two weeks.”[xiv] As of now, Iran is rejecting all notions of surrender. And oh yes, remember that President Trump is expecting “unconditional surrender.” [I guess, right now, it looks like the US is getting in – at least in a limited way. Perhaps just airstrikes. But then comes the aftermath. China and Turkey and Pakistan have made noises about supporting Iran.]
The Biblical Take – As Best As I Can See
There are several questions on the table. Let’s take them one at a time.
Will there be a war – before the Rapture & the Tribulation – that destroys life as we know it?
I think not. Luke 17:26-30 addresses the issue of the conditions of the world right up until the time of the Rapture. “And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” Jesus is making the point that things are going to look kind-of-normal. That does not mean that there will not be pockets of destruction, chaos and social breakdown. And yes, America could be one of them. But it indicates to me that life on earth, will for the most par6, be going on as normal.
Was this an unprovoked attack?
We’ll answer the second part first. Iran has been provoking Israel for decades. They are the world’s leading sponsor of terror. And through their proxies, they have supported numerous Middle Eastern terror campaigns against Israel.
Finally, there exists a biblical mandate to support Israel. Not necessarily all their actions, but certainly the existence of the state and the prosperity and well being of its’ people. In some translations, Zechariah 2:8 describes Israel as “the apple of His eye.” The NLT puts it this way. “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.” The fact that the Jews returned to the Land to re-form the nation of Israel is a fulfillment of prophecy. There are numerous prophecies saying that God would bring His people back to the Land He had given them. Here’s one of them. “For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah, says the LORD, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.” (Jeremiah 30:3)
Should we in good conscience support Israel?
In Psalm 122 we find a detailed instruction to pray for Jerusalem…..For our own good. Because with that action come blessings. God even gives us a model of a prayer to pray. “Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, ‘May you have peace.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.” (Psalm 122:6-9) (NLT)
