Fog and lies always cloud what we can know about any conflict in real time. But we can know this. America and NATO are much closer to a shooting war with Russia. A Russian plane, an IL-76 Transport was shot down while in Russian air space. Moscow claims that over 60 Ukrainian POWs were on board along with Russian guards and a crew.
There were no survivors after the crash. Kyiv immediately denied that Ukrainian prisoners were on board. The Russians claimed that it was brought down by a Patriot missile, which would have been supplied by the United States. The New York Times now confirms that American officials told them “the American-made Patriot missile system is likely responsible for the Russian Il-76 plane crash.” They further believe that at least some POWs were on board.[i]
Moscow is now warning that if planes or missiles were or will be launched from NATO countries, the bases from which they came would become legitimate targets. They specifically mentioned airfields in Poland that serve as a NATO hub in forwarding military supplies to Ukraine. Hal Turner reports that Moscow has made it “explicitly clear that if F-16’s take off from NATO bases, and are used to attack Russian forces inside Ukraine, Russia will ‘mercilessly destroy’ those bases. Russia’s investigation of the incident yielded 116 missile fragments. Data used to target the plane might have been obtained through the Western-linked Link-16 system. The complexity of the attack may have prevented early detection.” It suggested that a form of stealth technology was employed, as the missile did not admit a probing signal. The Patriot Missile Battery was likely operated by NATO personnel from the US, the UK and Poland.[ii] [iii]
A Russian strike of a NATO country could activate article 5 of the NATO Treaty. It reads in part, “an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defense.” So, it could bring in many if not all of NATO into the fight. In the past, Putin and other Russian officials have admitted that they likely could not match the power of NATO ground forces, and so would not hesitate to go to the nuclear option.
In response to the escalating situation, Poland has issued a “Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) changing flight regulations in the entire eastern quarter of their country.” The NOTAM will be in effect until May 5th. Poland explained that the new rules were put into effect “due to the possibility of Unplanned Military Actions related to ensuring National Security.” Ukraine will soon be receiving not only the long-promised F-16s but also air-launched cruise missiles with a range of up to 300 miles.[iv] Hal Turner makes the argument that we are setting the stage for a nuclear confrontation with Russia “The US and NATO are training Ukraine Pilots on F-16’s. Training those same pilots on the use of the U.S. B-61 nuclear bomb, and debating also giving them German Taurus missiles which can reach Moscow.” It feels like NATO is trying to trigger Article 5 which would be the go signal for a war with Russia. They “are setting the stage for exactly that, by supplying Ukraine with nuclear-capable F-16’s, training Ukrainian pilots to fly those planes and to use the B-61 nuclear bomb, and allow those planes to takeoff from NATO bases outside of Ukraine, attack Russian forces in Ukraine, then land at those NATO bases for refueling, re-arming, and maintenance.”[v]
Now, a plan has leaked out of London that would further ratchet up the march toward war. According to reports, the Brits hope to have an Expeditionary Force land in western Ukraine before the end of May. They are waiting until for the further degrading of both the Russian and Ukrainian militaries. The UK forces would occupy the right bank of the Dnieper River and the border with Belarus. Finland, Sweden, Lithuania and Poland would also supply troops. A No-Fly Zone would be set up in western Ukraine. These planned actions would free up Ukrainian units for action at the front while the allies took up duties in the rear. The expeditionary force would participate in attacks on the Transnistrian Russian Enclave & the infrastructure in Russia’s northern region.[vi]
In an effort to reboot the war effort, President Zelensky has removed Valerii Zaluzhnyi, head of the country’s military. Zaluzhnyi is being replaced by replaced by Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces. It has been rumored that the former commander has engaged in informal talks with the Russians regarding a peace deal. In addition, the Ukrainian Parliament revised and expanded the Mobilization Law to expand the numbers that can be drafted for combat.[vii]
“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” (Matthew 24:6)
