If you haven’t been following the progress of the war in Ukraine lately you are probably right in line with the overwhelming majority of the American people. After the initial weeks of the conflict there seems to have been a sort of stalemate that set in, with the Russians having the upper hand, but not finishing the job, so to say. But now all of that has changed – in numerous ways. Flush with lots of materiel supplied by NATO and Western expertise they have launched a counter offensive that had some early success in pushing back the Russians in some areas. And with that came an increased danger of escalation, both territorially – and in the fact that the whole thing could go nuclear.
Using “operational surprise,” Ukraine launched a counter attack that initially reclaimed 2,500 square kilometers of territory and threatened to surround 20,000 Russian troops in the oblast of Kharkiv. The Russians however were not completely taken by surprise and managed an orderly withdrawal saving the bulk of their forces.[i] Zelenksy crowed like a cock, “The Russian army in these days is demonstrating the best that it can do — showing its back.”[ii] But despite some territorial success, the cost of the operation was high. 4,000 dead on one battlefield alone in just two days. Hal Turner reported that losses were heavy on both sides with the Ukrainians accounting for the bulk of the casualties. And now Russia is staging 75,000 reinforcements – who came from the Eastern Military District around Moscow. These are right now on the move to the front.[iii]
After the initial withdrawal, Russia’s response was swift. HTR reported that on September 11, Russia launched “a massive barrage of cruise missiles against Ukraine. For the first time, they are hitting Electric Generating Stations. Blackouts are now reported in many areas of Ukraine. Sources inside the war zone caught video of Russian naval vessels, surface and submarine, launching “Kalibr” cruise missiles in almost every direction!” The attacks are leaving large swaths of Ukrainian territory are in blackout.[iv] Numerous cities lost power as critical infrastructure was targeted. I had often wondered why it had not been targeted earlier. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the ultimate result of the attacks. “The one-time success at the front [Last week] is only beautifully shown in the press. The death toll along the entire line of clashes has exceeded ten thousand {Ukrainians], the wounded fill all hospitals, there is a shortage of ambulances.”[v]
Now, it turns out, that Ukraine had help from the US. They had help from American intel. The US war gamed with the Ukrainian forces and urged them to launch a more limited offensive than what was originally planned. CNN reported, that “Ukrainian capabilities, bolstered by sophisticated western arms and training, have closed an important gap, officials say – particularly the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, that Ukraine has been using to launch attacks behind Russian front lines in recent months.”[vi] So, the question becomes did the US actually plan the counter offensive. And if they did, did that cross Putin’s Red Line?
This wasn’t the first time the US has inserted itself into the conflict. According to the New York Times, “Throughout the war, the United States has provided Ukraine with information on command posts, ammunition depots and other key nodes in the Russian military lines. Such real-time intelligence has allowed the Ukrainians — who U.S. officials acknowledge have played the decisive role in planning and execution — to target Russian forces, kill senior generals and force ammunition supplies to be moved farther from the Russian front lines.”[vii] There’s even more to that story. HTR reports that “Forensic examination of the dead bodies from the Offensive reveal that one in three soldiers operating under the Ukrainian chevron was a citizen of a NATO member state.” If that is true, that could change the equation. The question then becomes: Were those fighters their as mercenaries or were they put their by the NATO governments? Hal Turner writes: “It is expected that, within days, the official assessment of the Russian Ministry of Defense will be publicly acknowledged that the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine has definitively escalated into a state of war between Russia and NATO, with unpredictable results for all parties to the conflict.”
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, went even further, using scripture to threaten nuclear war. He characterized the hostilities as a “hybrid war between NATO and Russia,” saying “ If these idiots continue the unrestrained pumping of the Kiev regime with the most dangerous types of weapons, then sooner or later the military campaign will move to another level. Visible borders and potential predictability of the actions of the parties to the conflict will disappear from it. It will follow its own military scenario, involving new participants in it. It has always been so. And then Western countries will not be able to sit in their clean houses and apartments, laughing at how they are carefully weakening Russia with someone else’s hands. Everything will catch fire around them. Their people will grab grief in full. They will literally have the earth burning and concrete melting. We’ll get a lot of it, too. It will be very, very bad for everyone. After all, it is said: ‘From these three plagues, from fire, smoke and brimstone coming out of their mouths, a third part of the people died.’ (Rev 9:18)”[viii] Of course, when he’s talking about fire and melting concrete he’s talking about nuclear war.
Now more countries seem to be getting into the fray. Azerbaijan, located on the southern flank of Russia just attacked Armenia. Azerbaijan is tied to Europe through a natural gas deal. So, ties to the West. Armenia is seeking the help of Russia through the CTSO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) that includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. By invoking Article 4, those countries are obliged to come to the aid of Armenia. So, Russia will face a second front. And the country of Georgia will be holding a referendum to determine if they should “re-open its’ war with Russia.”[ix] That would mean yet a third front for Moscow. Still, other countries are threatening to get into the mix.
“Li Zhanshu is the head of China’s legislature: the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.” He met with Putin last week and the head of Russia’s Duma (legislature). He made a statement that sent a very strong signal to America and the West. “We see that the United States and its NATO allies are expanding their presence near the Russian borders, seriously threatening national security and the lives of Russian citizens….We fully understand the necessity of all the measures taken by Russia aimed at protecting its key interests….We are providing our assistance.”[x] One has to ask just what form that assistance will take. Finally, for now at least is North Korea. It is being reported that the North Koreans are ready to provide up to 100,000 troops and workers to both fight and aid in the rebuilding of Ukraine.
