Thought I’d use this end-of-year / beginning-of-year period to do a little review. So in the next couple of issues or so we’ll be taking a look at where we’ve been – recently – and where we’re headed. Taking our ‘prophetic pulse,’ if you will. To start with will look at some stories with prophetic significance that point up just how far we’ve fallen from the mark. We’ll break them down over the next few weeks.
WHERE WE’VE BEEN – 1
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2Timothy 3:1-5)
The Advance of the LGBT Agenda
It was a watershed year for the Gay cause. It was a year of the legalization of institutionalized perversion and suppression of the Biblical point of view. [Oh, does that sound narrow? Well, the TRUTH is narrow. There can be only one.] In June of 2015, the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. It was almost inevitable, because the American population had reached a tipping point wherein a majority favored the practice. That action tore down social instituitons that had survived millenia and directly violated the Judeo-Christian worldview upon which this country had been founded.
This cultural sea-shift did not rise up of its own accord. It was the culmination of a decades-long plan, dating back to the 1970s. In 1973 homosexuality was removed from the American Psychological Association’s list of disorders. Then in 1988, Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen, offered up a public relations plan to ‘normalize’ homosexuality. Growing out of ideas formed at a conference of leading activists, the two wrote a book entitled, After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 90’s. It was a plan of action, a call to arms. First, they worked under the premise that they could use AIDS to “maximize the sympathy and minimize the fear” of the mainstream culture. The book was aimed at selling “gay rights” to straight America.[i] They came up with a three point plan, rooted equally in the brainwashing techniques of Communist China and the sophisticated manipulations of Madison Avenue. The processes they would use they described as: 1) Desensitization, 2) Jamming, 3) Conversion. Desensitization was a process to use the media to flood the market with inoffensive gay advertisements until “…the issue becomes thoroughly tiresome.” Kirk and Madsen were out to convince the public that they were like everyone else; in their words, – to “…lull straights into an attitude of indifference.”[ii] Jamming has been described as “psychological terrorism” used to suppress dissent. They used shame and accusations of bigotry against anyone that opposed their agenda. The word “homophobe” became part of the lexicon. Theirs was a “planned psychological attack in the form of propaganda fed to the nation via the media.” They enlisted Hollywood in their process. This is how they have achieved conversion.[iii]
That’s been a major part of the process that overturned a cutltural ethic that had lasted centuries. This was the tipping point I wrote about at the beginning of the year. In no uncertain terms this is a rejection of God and God’s Law. Religious pluralism has set in to the point where we not only don’t care what Scripture teaches on the matter – but we are precluded from considering it at all. Listening to a program on NPR I heard mainstream reporters with recognizable names describe this event as a point of light in a very dark year. This is the view that has taken hold across so many aspects of our culture.
A Pew Reseach poll released in mid-December highlights the fall. It showed 54% of those identifying as Christian think homosexuality should be accepted by society. The number for the entire country sits at 62%. This is a trend that is growing especially among the younger generations. While support for homosexuality among Baby Boomers stands at 32%, among Millenials, those born between 1981 and 1996 support rises to 51%. This trend holds true even among conservative denominations. Acceptance of homosexuality among members of the National Baptist Convention went up 19 points to 54% in the last seven years and even the very conservative “Pentecostals who identify with the Assemblies of God remain largely opposed to homosexuality, 26% now say it should be accepted by society, up from 16% in 2007.”[iv]
So we’ve come to the point where now even most of the Church will not defend God’s word, having only “a form of godliness but denying its power.” (2Timothy 3:5) However, no matter how many will try to deny and excuse it, God has spoken clearly on this matter in the Scriptures. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools…. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting.” (Romans 1:18-22, 26-28) It’s a hard word; but a true word. And it is on God’s word that we must stand. There will be a hard road ahead for believers who stand on the sacredness and absolute truth of the Scriptures. For at this time, America has turned against the things of God. So we should expect that the social and legal pressure to cave on our principles and conform will increase socially and legally. We are witnessing a great falling away from God’s truth.
Black Sacrifice: The Baby Parts Scanal
This last year also saw one of the darkest scandals imaginable. Planned Parenthood was found to be selling off baby parts as by-products of its abortions. While the hue and cry was loud at first it quickly died down and in the end, with the passage of the latest budget deal, a Republican controlled Congress gave approval and continued funding Planned Parenthood. Possibly the most remarkable thing about the incident was not its ghastly nature – but the fact that many politicians came out in support of the abortion mills of Planned Parenthood, praising the work they do as beneficial to women in particular and society in general. Its supporters included President Obama and the presumpive Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton. And while the scandal has been quietly swept from the main stage, over 60 million babies lives have been taken since Roe v Wade. This is a shame on the conscience of America. With this latest budget, we’ve lost the opportunity to strike a blow against this darkest of sins. On the prophetic level this abortion frenzy – [over 900,000 per year] is a close cousin of the child sacrifice practiced by the ancient pagans who offered their children to the god Molech. God sent judgment on the Isreaelites when they joined in this practice. America will not be immune from God’s hand of justice.
