There’s a bit of insanity going on in the Middle East right now; specifically Syria. The big hullabaloo really got going this time when there was a chemical attack in the rebel held city of Douma that killed about 40 civilians and wounded perhaps 500 others. The US and the Western Allies, just hours after the attack and before any evidence had been collected, blamed Syria – and the Syrians, along with their Russian allies immediately denied that they were responsible. A statement by the US State Department reflected the curious logic that led to that conclusion. “We continue to closely follow disturbing reports on April 7 regarding another alleged chemical weapons attack, this time targeting a hospital in Douma, Syria…. These reports, if confirmed, are horrifying and demand an immediate response.” [OK, so they are admitting that the reports are NOT confirmed. But then just a few lines later….] “The Assad regime and its backers must be held accountable and any further attacks prevented immediately.” [And then, as if that’s not enough, let’s antagonize Russia, especially now that they’ve developed hypersonic nuclear missiles for which we have no defense.] “Russia, with its unwavering support for the regime, ultimately bears responsibility for these brutal attacks.”[i] Tucker Carlson of FOX News, speaks reason to the situation. There has not been enough time to conduct an investigation; come to a real conclusion. “We should be skeptical of this. Starting with the poison gas attack itself. All the geniuses tell us that Assad killed those children, but do they really know that? Of course they don’t really know that. They are making it up. They have no real idea what happened.”[ii] Observers have been noting that Assad had no real reason to gas attack those people. He was winning. President Trump had announced that he wanted the US to get out of Syria. Well that wouldn’t fit the Deep State agenda. Former presidential candidate Ron Paul summed it up like this. “It doesn’t make any sense for Assad under these conditions to all of a sudden use poison gasses. I think there is a zero chance he would have done this deliberately.”[iii]
Feeding into the absurdity of the situation are factors both current and past. To start with, no investigation was completed when the US, the UK, France the EU and Israel declared Assad’s government guilty. Then there is the source of the reports on the gas attacks which consists of the “rebel forces, their own media, and the ‘White Helmets,’ who are notorious for creating ‘regime change’ propaganda against the Assad government.”[iv] Then there is the history. Syrian forces have been fingered before for gas attacks – and retaliation taken. In 2013, the Obama administration “cherry picked” evidence to create the impression that Assad’s troops were responsible for a chemical attack that was likely carried out by al-Nusra, a rebel group associated with al-Qaeda. Pulitzer Prize winning reporter, Seymour Hersh wrote the following. “One high-level intelligence officer, in an email to a colleague, called the administration’s assurances of Assad’s responsibility a ‘ruse’. The attack ‘was not the result of the current regime’, he wrote. A former senior intelligence official told me that the Obama administration had altered the available information – in terms of its timing and sequence – to enable the president and his advisers to make intelligence retrieved days after the attack look as if it had been picked up and analyzed in real time, as the attack was happening. The distortion, he said, reminded him of the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, when the Johnson administration reversed the sequence of National Security Agency intercepts to justify one of the early bombings of North Vietnam.”[v] On the other hand, evidence
Still, with all the uncertainty the situation seem to be spinning out of control. US Naval and Air Force assets are deploying to the waters off Syria. Tensions quickly escalated. President Trump warned that we were “ready to provide military options.” The Russian ambassador warned that Russia would shoot down any incoming missiles and attack their source, meaning the planes and ships that launched them. Meanwhile the Russian navy was moving off the Syrian coast and the Chinese ordered their fleet to join the Russians and assist them if the Americans launched a major attack.[vi] President Trump’s response was strong. He tweeted out: “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’ You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”[vii] Doug McIntosh lays out the parameters of the situation. “We are seeing Russia deploy command and control planes to seize the BattleSpace over Syria, and also over the ocean, and below the ocean off the Syrian coast. We are seeing Russian fighter jets deploying to cover the offshore US ships. We are seeing Russia seeking Iranian permission to fly heavy bombers to Syria. We are seeing Russia jamming our drones flying over Syria in order to prevent our control of BattleSpace over Syria. We are seeing both Russia and the US deploy submarines in order to control BattleSpace under the ocean off of Syria. We are seeing the US deploying command and control planes off the coast of Syria in order to seize BattleSpace from the surface to 40,000 feet. And finally, all of these actions are the precursors to WAR. The actions now being taken by both sides are designed to allow for attacks on Syria. In fact, the war over Syria has already begun in my opinion. The issue of whether we will launch cruise missiles is based on our control of BattleSpace over Syria. When I see all the specific actions being taken both by the USA and Syria, it is clear we are now in the early phases of a shooting war.”[viii] Then you can add in the very specific warning the Israeli’s gave to the Iranians. If Iran launched attacks on Israel from Syrian soil it would be Syria that paid the price. A senior Israeli defense official warned: “Assad’s regime and Assad himself will disappear from the map and the world if the Iranians do try to harm Israel or its interests from Syrian territory.”[ix] That warning brings to mind the prophecy found in Isaiah 17:1. “The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” And while all of this is going on in Syria, Hamas is preparing for five weeks of demonstrations similar to the one on land day when attacks on the Israeli border resulted in an IDF response that took 15 lives of the rioters. Hamas plans call for the demonstrations to continue until Israel’s Independence Day on May 15th, when they vow to breach the border with massive protests. Hamas is encouraging martyrdom by offering cash to the families of those killed or injured in the attacks.[x]
So the situation in Syria is about as dangerous as things have been since the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962. Even a small miscalculation could spiral upward into nuclear war. A member of Russia’s Defense Ministry warned that a clash of American and Russian military forces could result in “nuclear escalation” and World War III.[xi] This is not just hyperbole to the Russians. They are deadly serious. As Hal Turner reported: “On the nightly news broadcast, Russian state TV had a segment telling citizens of that country what they should bring with them to BOMB SHELTERS. Implicit in the segment was the notion that any Russian-US military conflict in Syria, would go Nuclear.”
If we want to understand what this is really about we’ve got to follow the money. And in this case, the money follows the energy – specifically natural gas. Here’s the scoop. Russia supplies a majority of the natural gas consumed by Europe. The Americans and their allies want to change that reality by piping Qatari gas to Europe. But to do so would require transit across Syria. But Assad will not allow that. Russia has been his patron and protector. So what has resulted, in the words of Turner, is a “a systematic effort to forcibly overthrow President Bashar Assad because he will not allow a natural gas pipeline from Qatar to Europe, to travel through Syria.” They’ve just disguised it as a civil war – and civilian casualties are just the currency of exchange. So, since ISIS and al-Qaeda and their rebel allies were against Assad, the US under Obama / Clinton was willing to those groups in their fight against the government. Turner: “These Barbarians were being supplied with weapons, money, food and vehicles by many of the countries who stood to gain from the Qatar pipeline: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey and others. You see, each of those countries would derive a fee for every barrel of oil which travels through their country via the pipeline; BILLIONS of dollars are at stake. The US also aided these Barbarians because the US wanted to free Europe from dependence on Russian natural gas.” When Trump became aware, he stopped the support of ISIS et al….but elements in the Deep State were able to continue to supply them at a reduced level. Now once the chemical attack occurred, Russian and Syrian authorities responded and claimed to have found “Chlorine Cylinders, manufactured by MERCK Corporation at a German facility.” They’ve published the pictures. What makes this possibly damning is that Germany is a NATO country, fully allied to the US and a part of the EU.[xii] Is the Russian evidence valid? I don’t know – but I know that it’s more evidence than the West has produced as of now. So at the very least we get now to a point where’ it’s a ‘He said, she said’ situation. AND FOR THAT WE’RE RISKING NUCLEAR WAR!
So Where From Here?
I am writing this on Thursday, April 12th. There are reports that an attack may be launched before the end of the week, spearheaded by France. But there are some level headed words coming out of the administration. Defense Secretary Mattis told reporters: “We’re still assessing the intelligence, ourselves and our allies. We’re still working on this.” And by now (Friday) it seems like the administration is sending mixed signals. According to Zero Hedge, “US National Security Advisor John Bolton and Defense Secretary James Mattis are reportedly feuding over the strategy in Syria, with Mattis favoring a more cautious approach.” The Secretary of Defense told the House Armed Service Committee, “We are trying to stop the murder of innocent people, but, on a strategic level, it’s how do we keep this from escalating out of control, if you get my drift on that.” And the White House admitted they the administration had not yet agreed on a response. In the meantime, Syria has prepared for the Western response. “The Syrian government and Hezbollah have reportedly evacuated weapons from key locations – [and] – Assad has moved planes to a Russian-operated base.”[xiii]
A Plot Twist Sheds New Light
Meanwhile the preparations for war continue – and not just in and around Syria, but worldwide. Russian troops are moving toward the borders of NATO countries. There are reports that Moscow has put their forces on alert across the globe. Russian ships have put to sea from the Syrian port of Tartus. And Russian TV is instructing its citizens in the finer points of building bomb shelters. At the same time, a US naval armada is steaming toward Syria to join UK and French forces already there. This has all the feel and danger of the Cuban Missile Crisis, with one exception. Despite all the coverage on the news, the world is going on about its business as if nothing is happening.New developments that came to light at the end of the week has shed further light – and confusion on the subject. Let’s start with what President Trump’s CIA Chief, Mike Pompeo – and now nominee for Secretary of State – told lawmakers on April 12th. As reported by Newsweek, Pompeo said that the “US killed up to 200 Russians in airstrikes conducted against forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in February.” Pompeo explained that US troops were responding to attacks by the Russians and their proxies. Newsweek again: “Both a U.S.-led coalition and the Russia-backed forces supportive of Assad are battling the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) in the region, but recent tensions have produced fears of a conflict erupting between Washington and Moscow.”[xiv] But now it seems, the Russians didn’t just sit there and take it. Russian news outlets and the Hal Turner Radio Show are reporting: “Two hundred American military troops have reportedly been killed in Syria along with approximately 1,800 American Private Military Contractors (PMC’s) by Russian air strikes…. The dead Americans were ‘revenge’ for the Russian guys who died as a result of the American shelling reported in US media at the end of February.”[xv] The Russian strikes were a response to the US one. They followed what was at the time, an most cryptic remark by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov. “”The time of negotiations has passed, the time of retribution has come.” What followed was a merciless bombing raid by the Ruskies on the American positions. The Russian based IAREX.RU opined: “Over the past week, since the alleged ‘Chemical Attack’ in Syria, the US has been publicly saying it would conduct missile strikes upon Syria over the purported use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians. But it is now becoming clear that the real reason for desiring to attack, is the deaths of 2,000 Americans.”[xvi] [I don’t know if that is truly the reason….but it is just another factor one must consider.]
Yet the consequences of a conflict between the United States and Russia would likely be catastrophic; even if localized and controlled – which frankly doesn’t seem likely. Combined with recent moves by China and Russia to make an end-run around the petro-dollar world economy that forced all nations to trade for oil using dollars, a war could threaten that essential pillar of the American economy. As the world sees that it no longer needs dollars the demand for them should drop precipitously driving the inflation cycle. Toss in rising interest rates – [and the Fed is already doing that] – and you have a recipe for dollar collapse. Those trends are in place already, and would only be exacerbated by a war. Pastor Dick Carmack writing at ANP points to the obvious parallels with the conditions that caused the Great Depression. [You can toss in the high-tariff trade wars that were in effect then and threatened now.] Don’t think any of this is pure accident. Carmack argues well that: “In order for world government to succeed America must fall.” It is necessary for the New World Order to emerge. Evidence is emerging that we are close to entering what the Bible calls the Tribulation. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” (Matthew 24:21) (KJV) God has promised that He will judge the earth. Yet there is still time to repent. And the Church is called to do so. Here are the words of 2Chronicles 7:13-14. “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land..”
